Project Pearlshipping

So it’s been ages since the last music analysis. But I had to write this. I’ve spent months and months without much thought for Pearlshipping- just because I’ve been busy with university and that, but this has reawakened the Pearlshipper inside me. Want to know why?

 

Oracion, as most Diamond and Pearl fans and indeed Pokémon fans know, is the purely instrumental piece they played in Movie 10, The Rise of Darkrai. Now, for the 20th Anniversary Pokémon movie, this is used as the Ending theme, with lyrics. It was released as a single in July 2017, so I really don’t know why I didn’t find out about it earlier. But anyway, here are the lyrics:

 

Let's walk together as we gaze ahead
Just let me hear your voice again

 

Obviously any analysis on this site is just speculation, but let’s have a little fun here. Already in the first two lines above we see something we like. This song is about someone that the singer hasn’t seen in a long time- “Just let me hear your voice again”. So it's not about Ash and Pikachu. He hasn't been parted from him in a long time.

Let's walk together, even on your lonely days
When you find yourself unable to speak out, just wrap your hands around my shoulders

Let's always continue to seek out
Our hearts are racing in excitement
Even when we're making a little detour, right?

Our journey continues on, even onto the future
Of course, I find your smile
To be my favourite of them all

 

THE THREE LINES ABOVE HERE are literally the only parts we need to be excited about. It instantly got me hyped for Pearlshipping again after reading this. Do you know why? Let’s compare this to the lyrics of High Touch.

 

“Through today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow
This journey goes forever on, but
Always...
Your smile is with me!

To the north, to the south, east and west
The scenery goes on changing, but
No matter where I go...
Your smile is always there!”

 

It essentially restates what it said in High Touch. No other remotely shippy song from Pokémon even comes close to this, simply just because the lines above came straight from the seiyuu of Ash and Dawn singing AS Ash and Dawn and therefore straight out of the characters’ mouths.

 

“Of course, I find your smile
To be my favorite of them all”

 

The “of course” is reaffirming something that’s been stated before, and as Pearlshippers, we might choose to interpret that as referring back to High Touch. There’s also the fact that these are the lyrics to Oracion, a song that appeared in a DP movie. That alone gives a reason for saying this could refer to Pearlshipping.

 

Let's run together in this wide world
Untold encounters still await us

When we've grown even stronger
We can even embrace anyone's weakness, right?

Let's traverse the world and laugh it out
Perhaps forgetting those morning greetings at night

Whatever happens ahead
It's not motivating to be alone
It's good to achieve our dreams together
It's good to watch the rainbow together
 

There’s nothing much to be specifically said about the last parts of the song, just that it’s about carrying on your journey and moving forward together. That’s also one of the main messages from High Touch, but since this is more general, it’s nowhere near as strong a hint as the three lines I mentioned/got really excited about earlier.

SO. Let’s move forward! I’m looking forward to see what’s next in store for us now.
