I Will Be With You

(Where the Lost Ones Go)

Analysis video
I Will Be With You - Sarah Brightman & Paul Stanley
00:00 / 00:00

This song is the ending theme used in the Japanese version of Movie 10, Rise Of Darkrai, although it is sang in English. There is no confirmation, unlike with High Touch, that this song is explicitly about Ash and Dawn. However, it makes sense that this song is related to the characters of the movie. There are two sets of possible candidates. Ash and Dawn, and Alice and Tonio.

Section 1

Leave and let me go
You're not meant for me, I know
Carry on, carry on, and I'll stay strong

Leave and let me go

I will think of you, I know
But carry on, carry on, and I'll stay strong

We can establish that this is Ash and Dawn and not the other two, now. Why? Alice and Tonio have no reason to leave each other, having just found each other. I can almost see you shivering at the implications of the lyrics. Bad news for Pearlshipping? No. Remember, the movies 10,11 and 12 are part of a trilogy. Look at the wider picture. But for now, we'll stick to this song.

Section 2

Someone else will keep you warm from now on
Someone else will keep you safe from the storm
But I'll be with you wherever you go
So you will never be alone
I'm going where the wind blows
Going where the lost ones go

Now, this part can be interpreted in different ways. The way I think this is most likely to be interpreted, is this: As you know, Ash leaves each region after travelling in it. The "lost ones" are an allegory for all the travelling companions Ash has left behind. Dawn doesn't want to go down that route.

Section 3

I will be with you
I'm losing the love I found
Crying without a sound
Where have you gone?
I will be with you
You were my fool for love
Sent me from high above
You were the one
I will be with you
I'm going where the wind blows
Going where the lost ones go

What can I say? "Crying without a sound" obviously means that neither of them are expressing anything outwardly. The lines apart from the last two are from Ash's viewpoint, being sung by the male voice. This is different from the altered kid version. We're going by the original. Here, it means tha the knows that he and Dawn will separate, since he moves on to a new region every time once he's done with the league.

Section 4

Leave and let me go
Don't look back just let me go
Carry on, carry on, you must stay strong

Nothing ever looks the same in the light
Nothing ever seems to quite turn out right
When you realize that you have been loved
You will never be alone
I'm going where the wind blows
Going where the lost ones go

The first three lines are sang by the female voice. It clearly reflects what Dawn has always thought for Ash. All through the Diamond and Pearl first series, has she not offered her encouragement to Ash? The most noticable example at this point is what she did during Ash's Gym Battle with Roark. (O'er The Rampardos We Watched).

The chorus reprise is sang by the two voices is unison. Looking at this song now, it's true. Nothing is quite the same. Remember how Ash did so well in the Sinnoh League, where Dawn had been? He came in the top 4. His poor performance in Unova clearly highlights this. If he does the same in the Kalos region, it's safe to say that this analysis will have been proven correct. We'll wait and see.

Section 4

I will be with you
I'm losing the love I found
Crying without a sound
Where have you gone?
I will be with you
You were my fool for love
Sent me from high above
You were the one
I will be with you
I'm going where the wind blows
Going where the lost ones go

Leave and let me go
Baby I can't come along
Carry on, carry on, and I'll stay strong

Much of this is repeated, but the last lines lay forward a bleak future for Pearlshipping. For now. In the analysis of ONE, the ending theme to the consequtive film after movie 10, we'll find out why this isn't the case.
